I heard about Vietnam's bags, backpacks, shoes and other products both western and other expensive brands of items that can be bought in a super low price with high quality.
When I had the opportunity to go in Vietnam to attend a 3-day conference, part of the invitation is to promote what Vietnam specially in Ho Chi Minh City has to offer. My Vietnamese friends were excited to show me the famous shopping center in Ho Chi Minh where we can find super cheap but high quality items. They call it "Non-Factory Produced" version. According to locals, the bags, shoes, clothes and other products were made from exact same materials but made outside the factory and therefore expect the same quality with the materials but not exactly the sewing quality.
I was excited to see and check it out and yes, they are right! I saw tons of different types of bags, shoes, clothes, name it, they have it! And the price? Way cheaper than from the factory produced. The North Face backpack amounting to $149.00 in The North Face store can only be bought at about $15-$20 depending on the quantity. The more you get the higher the discount. My problem is how to carry them back to the Philippines without suspecting of importing goods in the Immigration Customs. So I bought only few bags, aside from the tight budget I had.
One more thing that amazes me is I became an instant millionaire in Vietnam with my $100.00 exchanged into Vietnam Dong. And because my money just went balloon in an instant, I was totally forgotten how much money all in all in my hands but just go buying. The funniest thing is when I got to the hotel, I checked my money and found out I spend too much for the bag itself.
